Time frame Saturday Feb 29 9:30am – noon, and Sunday, March 8: 3:30-6:00 p.m.
The proceeds of the sale will help the Foundation with a restoration project of the Foothill Club Clubhouse. Time spent assisting the Foundation will be counted as community service hours. Please consider this opportunity.
About the Clubhouse: In 1914 when the Club decided that they needed a permanent location to meet, they choose Berkeley architect Julia Morgan, a sorority sister of one of the founding members, to design their building. The clubhouse is used for many community and public events and many community outreach projects such as the Saratoga library, Holiday Baskets for low income families. The Club was founded in 1907 as a study club to broaden their education and discuss community concerns, members of the Saratoga Foothill Club continue their focus on civic and social issues and cultural topics. A popular Art Lecture series for community and club members presented by a university art historian provides in-depth exploration of the visual arts and artistic movements. The Public Lecture Series focuses on community concerns and presents performing artists. Many members are active in the local community and county serving as elected officials on school boards, city councils, or city and county commissions and nonprofit boards. Currently close to 15% of the members have been active for more than 25 years.
About the Julia Morgan: Julia Morgan was an American architect and engineer. She designed more than 700 buildings in California during a long and prolific career. She is best known for her work on Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. Julia Morgan was the first woman to graduate from the School of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, as well as the first woman architect licensed in California. She designed more than a thousand buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area during the first half of the 20th century and is known for her significant contribution to the development of the Bay Area Tradition. The building is located on Park Place near Saratoga Village, on what was once the Village Green.
About the Foundation: The Saratoga Foothill Club Historic Landmark Foundation was created in 2003 to raise funds for the preservation and maintenance of the Saratoga Foothill Club clubhouse and grounds.
