A scout from troop 200 has done his Eagle Project to help the homelessness situation in his area. He is having a short zoom meeting (around 15 minutes) to talk about homelessness and how we can help. Here is the email he sent:
Hello,My name is Hrishi Koushik and I’m from Troop 200 in SIlicon Valley!I am currently pursuing my Eagle Scout and finishing my Eagle project as a boy scout. My project mainly aims to assist people experiencing homelessness in Santa Clara Community, my hometownI would greatly appreciate it if this information could be forwarded to the SPL of your troop! Before I get into my request here are a couple of facts about Homelessness where we live today,
- In Santa Clara County (where I live) there are nearly seven thousand people experiencing homelessness
- Homelessness in Santa Clara County costs roughly $520M annually
This shows just how big of a problem homelessness is, and how much help the problem needs to eventually be solved.I know that no one person can make such a large difference and I’m not claiming to end homelessness, but simply help my community and it’s people to the best of my abilities. As such I developed my Eagle Project in two parts, one being to develop hygiene kits for HomeFirst, a (beneficiary) homeless shelter in my area. As well as the second part of my project being education, where I would like to make a request.I am organizing a couple of zoom sessions open to troops and packs in our area where scouts will learn valuable information about homelessness, the role it plays in our society, and how scouts can help people experiencing it.Not only will scouts learn information, they will also learn how to develop hygiene kits themselves with a location to acquire materials, methods of fundraising, and valuable leadership opportunities for them to display in their troop as well. Thanks for taking time to read this email and forward information to your troop! And if you have any questions, please email me!I greatly appreciate it—Hrishi KoushikTroop 200San Jose, CA
